Want to save time? Reduce costs? Improve Productivity? (Look no further) Cutting Edge Lasers are Australia’s leading laser specialists for the manufacturing and construction industries. As the exclusive distributors for Carter Products throughout Australia, we are currently stocking the innovative Flip-Pod Vacuum Holding System.

This recently redesigned device significantly enhances the utility and flexibility of your CNC router and offers some real benefits in improved Z-height accuracy. The Flip-Pod also eliminates the need for spoil boards and provides the tightest possible Z-tolerance whilst also increasing holding power. This handy device was the winner of the highly contested Challenger Award for Technical Merit at the International Woodworking and Supply Fair in the USA.

Adaptable to almost any CNC router equipped with a vacuum pump and table, the Flip-Pod system replaces the more traditional spoil-board with a Flip-Pod panel made of tough 508mm UHMW material. A pattern of circular cavities are routed into this panel, each of which can hold a single Flip-Pod. Each Pod can be placed in either the “down” position (flush with the top of the panel) or the “up” position (raised approximately 285mm above the panel). By simply flipping each pod into the desired “up” or “down” position, you can turn the vacuum on or off at any location to precisely match the holding power required for your part shape. The material is firmly held in a raised position above the router table surface, making it easy to perform edge boring or edge shaping. This intelligent design eliminates the need to produce previously needed dedicated holding fixtures, which means no wasted floor space to store those fixtures.

The Flip-Pod System saves you time, money and increases your productivity by eliminating the need to change different parts. Eliminating the need for spoil boards, the system is based on a grid of individual pods that seat in a work surface in any configuration required. The vacuum activated, retractable pods simplify part layout and positioning.

The Carter Flip-Pod system is available in four standard kit forms, from 100 to 400 pods, as well as custom configurations of over 100 pods. The revised Pods are totally compatible with previous Flip-Pod installations so they may be incorporated into existing cavities without modifications. All accessories from the original system - Half-Pods, Retractable Locators, and Fixed Locators -function just as before. Unlike the original seal, a rubber extension cup which compressed when vacuum was applied, the new seal flattens when vacuum is activated, so the part rests on the top of gray grooves of the Flip-Pod body itself. This results in the most accurate positioning possible. Field tests show that holding power is greatly improved in comparison to the original design - extremely important in processing smaller parts.

Discussing the upgrade, Carter President, Peter M. Perez remarked, "The Flip-Pod System has been so successful that it's hard to think it could be improved. When introduced some years ago, it won the highly contested Challengers Award. But this design feature makes a good thing even better. We expect it to be highly popular!" Carter Products has served the woodworking and allied markets with innovative products and been a leading producer of woodworking machinery accessories since 1929. The company pioneered the advantages of guide line lights in the 1950s and laser lights introduced in the 70s.
